BOSTON, Mass. — By many accounts, primary care physicians devote more than half of their workday to tasks related to electronic health records during and after clinic hours. These obligations contribute to work-life imbalance, dissatisfaction and a burnout rate around 50 percent.

Physician leaders have similar stressors — and simultaneously must help their people overcome their own work challenges amid today’s high-pressure, ever-changing health care environment that affects personal and professional satisfaction.

Balance, well-being and synergy come into focus today during Beyond Burnout & Resilience, a part of the 2018 AAPL Physician Leadership Summit, which continues through Monday, April 30. The one-day workshop features presentations from leading wellness experts, providing strategies attendees can use to address burnout and increase wellness within their organizations.

Registration for this workshop has closed, but wellness will be top-of-mind throughout the day for all Summit participants. (Our next workshop takes place during the Physician Wellness Academy, July 21-22 in Chicago, Illinois. Visit physicianleaders.org/summer for details.)

For more discussion of the subject, check out these recent posts from our newsroom.

Today’s schedule of events includes the second day of the three-day annual Spring Institute, which features live learning sessions.

Other highlights:

For over 45 years.

The American Association for Physician Leadership has helped physicians develop their leadership skills through education, career development, thought leadership and community building.

The American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL) changed its name from the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) in 2014. We may have changed our name, but we are the same organization that has been serving physician leaders since 1975.
